Terry McAuliffe Unleashes on a Virginia Sheriff: ‘I Don’t Care What You Believe!’

September 16, 2021

Terry McAuliffe went on an unhinged tirade during an event with the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association on Wednesday after one sheriff asked McAuliffe about his ties to the “defund the police” movement.

McAuliffe: “I don’t care what you believe. I’ve got a track record, and I’m proud of that track record.”

The sheriff specifically asked about an endorsement McAuliffe touted from a “defund the police” organization who outspokenly supports abolishing prisons and ICE.

McAuliffe: “Now first of all, sheriff, I’m proud to accept any endorsements. I get hundreds and hundreds and hundreds. Groups that endorse me, I don’t know everything they do. Have I ever supported defund the police? Are you out of your mind?”

Sheriff: “So you’ll never support defund the police?”

McAuliffe: “I won’t even dignify that with an answer. If my track record of four years as governor is not enough for you to understand how I feel on law enforcement, I will not dignify that with an answer.”

The heated exchange follows reports of some law enforcement officers announcing their plans to retire if McAuliffe is elected governor.

WSET: “‘Lord, help us,’ [Amherst County Sheriff E.W. Viar] said. ‘I’ve heard so many police officers say that if he wins, they’re going to retire. That’s scary. That’s really scary.’”

Bottom line: Terry McAuliffe’s disdain for law enforcement proves he is not capable of keeping Virginians safe.
