Washington insider Terry McAuliffe touted the endorsement of an anti-Israel group that has a history of supporting the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. The Washington Free Beacon reported earlier today that McAuliffe took to Twitter to tout the endorsement of the group which asks every candidate in their questionnaire questions related to Palestine, settlements and the right to boycott.
The Washington Free Beacon: “In a June tweet, McAuliffe said he was ‘tremendously grateful’ to have “the support and endorsement” of Emgage Action, a Muslim-American advocacy group that has described Israel as an ‘apartheid’ state and routinely lobbies in favor of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement (BDS). According to the group’s website, Emgage asks ‘every candidate’ seeking an endorsement ‘questions related to Palestine, settlements, and the right to boycott,’ which make up a ‘key part’ of its ‘endorsement process.’”
Mort Klein, President of the Zionist Organization of America called McAuliffe’s embrace of Emgage intolerable and called for every Jewish leader to condemn McAuliffe for taking such a radical stance.
The Washington Free Beacon: “At a time of a frightening increase in anti-Semitism and attacks on Jews, to accept the endorsement of and praise a group that promotes hatred and boycotts against the Jewish state is to legitimize hatred against [Israel],” Klein said. “Every Jewish leader must condemn McAuliffe for taking this stance.”
“Washington insider Terry McAuliffe is so desperate to cling to power that he will proudly tout an endorsement from a group that openly promotes the anti-Semitic boycott, divestment, and sanction movement,” said Virginia Rising Executive Director Tucker Davis. “McAuliffe can lecture the people of Virginia all he wants about tolerance and unity, but actions speak louder than words.”
